Drivers in London who contravene red route and bus lane regulations could soon be caught out by a smart car fitted with a digital traffic enforcement system (DTES). The system is being trialled by Transport for London (TfL) for six months, will use automatic number plate recognition, a global positioning system, video cameras, DVD recorders and broadband to ensure accurate information is recorded and perpetrators are fined. This technology is the first stage in replacing the current analogue CCTV systems currently used by TfL.
