Changes to London’s congestion zone and price rises for 2010
Monday, October 19th, 2009
The latest news on London’s congestion charges came from a statement released by Ken Livingstone after a meeting in City Hall.
Mr Livingston agreed that as with most things, public transport has been impacted because of the recession which is why he claims he planned ahead ‘to ensure London’s transport system had large financial reserves to cope with such a situation.’
However, he slated Mayor Boris Johnson who he claimed had ‘run down the reserves with gimmicks and commitments to throw away income’. Along with many other people, Ken Livingston is not a fan of the fare increases planned for January 2010, which he claims are in response to the hole that has been left in the transport budget for London.
In September 2009, City Hall was awash with shouts and cries from MPs which was described as ‘chaos’ over the debate of the planned abolition of the congestion charge in the western zone of London being postponed due to a symptom of incompetence.
Ken Livingstone claims that those who are driving eco-unfriendly vehicles that guzzle gas are being ‘let off’ on the planned increases on C-charge of £25, due to the Mayor’s decision which does nothing for environmental factors. Additionally, Boris Johnson’s plan to make the congestion zone half the size that it currently is would mean that London will lose £55 – £70 million a year, says Ken Livingstone.
At a time when London parking tickets and congestion charges are due to rise motorists are looking to recoup their transport loses, we at 247 Parking provide cheap parking in London at secured and covered car parks across key city areas at affordable prices.
The worst parking areas in the UK
Friday, October 16th, 2009
In London parking news and news on parking from across the UK this year, a survey carried out by Aviva has seen members of the public voting for the worst parking spaces in the country and they have come up with a list of the top 10.
The worst parking spaces are those places where drivers have complained that you need a ‘can opener’ to get out of the space and fear that their cars will be dented because they are so boxed in by other vehicles. In some cases drivers have had to climb out of their boots in hatchback vehicles because they have been unable to open their car doors due to the close proximity of the car parked next to them.
Director of insurance at Aviva, David Tyers, commented:
“We asked the pubic for their worst experiences and they’ve certainly come up with some priceless examples. People appear genuinely frustrated by some spaces that are on offer throughout the UK – not only are the bumps and scratches taking their toll on their paintwork, but the whole process appears more exhausting than ever!’
Car parking in Soho was nominated as the second worst place in the UK for parking your car.
Soho parking particularly on Brewer Street has seen parking spaces which are sandwiched between pipes and masked with a large concrete pillars. Motorists parking in Soho in the Brewer Street area have had to squeeze out of such a tight space when they have tried to exit their vehicles that there have been a large number of complaints because of scraped paintwork and dented doors.
Other areas to have been nominated as some of the worst in the UK have including parking in London, Brighton, Nottingham, Blackpool, Hendon and Harrogate.
