52 degrees centigrade on the buses

London commuters are sweltering in record temperatures today and it is going to be hotter tomorrow, the Evening Standard reports (18-07-06).

The Evening Standard has recorded 52C (125.6F) on buses and 47C (116.6F) on Tubes in readings that combine heat and humidity. EU guidelines prohibit cattle being transported at above 27C (81F). The temperatures experienced by passengers were recorded on the number 9 bus at Aldwych and on the Central line yesterday afternoon.

The Met Office said said: “It’s going to be oppressively hot and the humidity is actually set to get worse later in the week. It’s dry, hot, with little cloud and we’re going to see a slow build in temperatures through today and tommorrow.. But humidity figures will get higher and that’s going to make it extremely uncomfortable.”
