CCTV to ticket parking offenders…
Having trialled its use, Westminster council is for the first time using CCTV cameras to ticket illegally parked vehicles on its streets.
Parking wardens will still be used by the council, however they will concentrate on permit and ticket meter offenders, leaving the majority of the yellow line enforcement to the new initiative.
Westminster council issued some 715,000 tickets in 2005 generating revenue of £65.4m, a figure down from the million tickets it issued in 2004.
